Should I get the father of my kids to get a power of attorney?

The father of my kids is currently incarcerated for violating his probation. he received his w-2 forms the day he was booked. I was planning to have his taxes done for him by someone I know but what should I do about his signature? Should I get him to give me power of attorney to sign his name, just to be on the safe side?
