I can understand general english,but unable to understand maths used in mathematics?

I've read mathematics books in foreign languages before (I'm a native English speaker, but somewhat fluent in German), and I found that once I learned the words for specific math terms, things just fell into place. It might help to look up the unknown words that show up frequently and write them on a piece of paper for quick reference.
